Una combinazione di sequenze documentaristiche e sovrapposizioni di immagini sperimentali per esaminare la memoria dell’Olocausto, la famiglia e il ruolo della fotografia nella storia. Tre bambine in costume olandese posano per una fotografia per il loro padre. La madre della regista racconta che i suoi genitori staccarono diverse fotografie dagli album di famiglia quando dovettero fuggire dai nazisti nel 1943. Gli album furono messi in salvo ad Amsterdam. Racconta anche che l’albero di noce piantato dai suoi genitori fu abbattuto durante la guerra. Alla fine della guerra, sua sorella trovò che l’albero aveva buttato nuovi getti e oggi è rigoglioso e produce noci su noci ogni anno.

A striking combination of documentary and experimental approaches to examine Holocaust memory, the family and the role of photography in history. Three girls in Dutch costumes stand posing for their father. This fleeting moment, made static ina photograph, is contrasted with the moving imagery of railway tracks that carried the death transports, now blurred with memory and time. Schogt’s mother describes how her parents tore several pictures out of the family albums when they fled the Nazis in 1943. Also recounts how the walnut tree her parents planted was cut down during the war. After the war, her sister finds the tree with several new shoots – now a huge tree that bears quantities of delicious walnuts every year.
